Validating Carrier: What It Is and Why It Matters in Practice

Guide

How it works

In any ticketed itinerary, three carrier roles may apply:

  • Operating carrier – operates the flight
  • Marketing carrier – publishes and sells the flight
  • Validating carrier – issues the ticket and manages payment and settlement

When you issue on W2-365, W2 is the validating carrier. It is responsible for ticket issuance, BSP reporting, and clearing — even though it does not operate the aircraft.

Why W2 as validating carrier is useful

Using W2 enables:

  • Ticket issuance in BSP markets where the operating airline has no presence
  • Combinations of carriers without direct interline agreements
  • Centralised payment handling and settlement via IATA

This removes structural constraints while keeping your booking and issuance flow unchanged.
