Berlin is not just the capital of Germany and full of history but also a Christmas wonderland in December. Everything is sparkling and shining and there are countless Christmas markets everywhere in the city 🌟
If you’re still looking for finding Christmas presents there are plenty of options: Check out the Mall of Berlin, Friedrichstrasse, and the Kudamm. Especially the Kudamm, one of the most famous avenues in Berlin and named after the former Kurfürsten of Brandenburg, is a must-see. It is decorated with thousands of Christmas lights and the very broad, long boulevard lined with shops, houses, hotels, and restaurants is literally bringing all visitors in a Christmas mood 🎄
After a long day of Christmas shopping, you might get hungry and thirsty and what’s better than having an original German Glühwein (mulled wine) and a German Bratwurst (sausage) for getting back energy. The most beautiful Christmas markets are the one next to Schloss Charlottenburg, the one at the Gendarmenmarkt and the Lucia Christmas Market. The air is filled with the sweet smell of roasted almonds and Glühwein. Besides these delicacies, savory dishes such as Handbrot and Kartoffelpuffer as well as sweet goodies like Kandierte Apfel, Germknædel and Baumstriezel are a must-try. Also, traditional Glühweihn comes in many different versions. For instance, as white Glühwein, Glühwein mit Schuss (with extra alcohol like Rom for instance) or for the kids as alcohol-free Punsch 🍷
And what’s next? After a long day of shopping and Christmas markets, you can go ice skating on one of many ice rinks or head to one of many cool and hip bars in Prenzlauer Berg.
Doesn’t this sound like the perfect winter wonderland? So, what are you waiting for? Discover Berlin this year before Christmas ✈️
